Tree Details:	Pine City Natural Area supports fairly extensive stands of loblolly pine forest, which are among the last remaining high-quality stands of that type in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain. It is within a region of about500 square miles, primarily in Monroe County, that was the only substantial area of the Delta where loblolly pine forests were characteristic at the time of settlement. The Natural Area provides vital habitat for the last remaining colony of the federally endangered red-cockaded woodpeckers in the Delta which are supported by the pine forest.
